I’ve told some of my out-of-town relatives that number … and there was a considerable look of shock on their faces.

In the meantime there have been a lot of layoff notices announced.

Great point, and one I have considered.

I actually have revised my reference list, swapping out two members not so long ago. I also only give out reference information if I am 100% certain that they are going to be called, which is usually after an interview round or two. I don’t want to burn out those folks nice enough to stick their necks out for me. Plus, I give my references a “heads up” call to let them know if I am in the running for a position.
